His office was a mess which was highly unusual. Files were thrown about on his desk, some were open and some were practically spilling their white and papery guts over the floor. Camden’s desktop console hummed furiously as it tried to keep from overheating. The only thing in a more severe state of chaos than Camden’s office was Camden himself.
There was a loud ding on his computer as an email popped into his inbox, jolting the man out of his sleep. His eyes immediately flew to the clock which told him it was six in the morning. He never went home last night. This would have been concerning if this hadn’t been the trend for the last four months. As Abstergo pressured for the more research, that meant Camden had to spend more time in the office. On average he was spending at least three nights a week at the office. Besides a bed, he had little to return to at home.
With a groan and crack in his back, Camden stood from his chair and sidestepped a particularly large file which had spilled out onto the floor. Last night he had been searching for any evidence that skills could be learned through the Bleeding Effect without the other nasty symptoms. Abstergo seemed to be very focused on the collapsing sanity part which Camden didn’t blame them for.
Camden walked over to the small closet he had been given and opened it to pull out a new shirt and tie. He had a rough night but that didn’t mean his appearance had to suffer for it. He quickly stripped off the slept-in shirt and tugged on the clean one over his shoulders, buttoning to the second button from the top. He also draped the tie around his neck but did not bother to tie it. He figured he would do that just before leaving his office.
The next ten minutes were spent putting papers back into the correct files. Camden couldn’t remember even opening some of these files. That only meant that he was going to have to spend another night in the office. He stacked all the folders into two piles, files that could be returned to storage and the files that needed to be reread after the Animus sessions.
Now with his mind on those Animus sessions, without sitting down, he bent over to click on the email which happened to be the schedule for that day. There would be five Animus sessions happening, three of which Camden was meant to supervise. He hated watching those damned sessions but it was part of the job description. It was also to be sure that the project went smoothly. When Animus sessions were performed without issue, it meant Abstergo was one step closer to achieving its goals.
With a sigh Camden picked up the picture frame which he must have knocked over last night. The glass was unscratched, much to his relief, the smiling faces of his wife and son stared back at him. Everything he did, the long nights in the office, overseeing sessions, the bottomless seas of paperwork and files, it was all for them.
The smallest of smiles, something that rarely graced Camden’s face, flashed for a second before disappearing. He had a long day ahead of him but first, he needed to fix his tie.

Eden had been enjoying her work lately, she was stressed but it wasn't so horrible. She really liked it and it was a wonderful job she had, she stayed most of the night. Her brown eyes scanning her paper work she had to do, she was on her computer for a long time. By the time five hours passed by she didn't even make a dent in what she had been working on, the numbers were off and she didn't understand it in the least. It was driving her nuts, and it was really pissing her off. And didn't know what to do.
But during the night she ended up taking a walk going through the whole facility seeing a few people still there, but then there was a guy that she worked with. He was a real hard ass but she respected him, Camden was so hard working and she didn't know exactly why he was so driven. But she did know that he did it for a reason, that it was very personal to him and didn't know what to say about it. But she wanted to help him if she could, which was why she worked so hard.
Camden was the kind of guy she worked so hard to impress but it never happened. And right then as she walked that night she saw him asleep in his chair. And knew that she had to work even harder, watching him for a few moments she sighed a little bit. In that moment he looked so sweet, and she loved his voice. But she knew that two important people in his life were not there and it worried her. But sighing softly she knew she had to do something, in that moment she was thought for a second.
"What ever your reason Camden we will figure this out"
She said lowly to herself before leaving him to get some more work done. Taking a deep breath as she went through the papers again, checking then rechecking all the information. But then she found a little error in her findings, and knew that it of course wouldn't solve the problem but was one step closer to the problem. Which made her really happy, she wanted to celebrate but knew it was childish to. Since it wasn't a huge break through and she knew it, so she was silent. And she decided to sit back and relax a bit.
Unsure exactly what would happen, she worked through the night working on some alert medicine and lots of coffee, she noticed the other people coming in. She hadn't even noticed what people were doing there, looking at the time she was rather surprised. So she went into the ladies room and freshened herself up and thankfully she had some more clothing to wear. And came back out ready to take on another problem, but wanted to speak with Camden. So she made her way past her office. Quickly making sure that there was no messages for her and decided to go forth.
So taking a deep breath she stood outside his door for a moment and smiled a bit and knocked on his office door, and just waited since he slept there she didn't know if he was decent or what not. So to respect his privacy she just waited for him.

Camden had finished pulling the final knot in his tie as there was a knock on his door. He folded his collar down and straightened as far as he could. Very few people had the courage to come around his office without an appointment and judging by the soft knock, Camden was almost certain as to who it was. Eden wasn’t the first person he wanted to encounter in the morning but he had little choice. Somehow the girl had climbed her way up the ladder to a spot next to his and Camden did not admit it out loud but it bothered him. Then again he couldn’t complain, he had been nearly the same age when he received the position.
Then again it wasn’t just her age that bothered him. Eden was invested but not in the same way that Camden was and that made him uneasy. He had been practically born into the Templars and had a long-standing grudge with the Assassins for taking three people that were dear to him.
With Eden, it was almost as if she didn’t know the Templars existed; sometimes Camden doubted that the girl fully understood what she had gotten herself into. This wasn’t just a job; it was a way of life. Any kid that made it to level II clearance and beyond was locked into a contract and the only escape was dangerous and few survived.
Sadly he had little control over who Abstergo chose to represent them. He was stuck working with Eden whether he liked her or not. That also meant that he could not ignore the knock at his door.
He grabbed the stack of files that needed to be returned from his desk and walked over to the door. When he opened it, his guess turned out to be correct. Eden stood patiently out in the hall, a smile spread across her face. She looked clean and proper but Camden had seen her last night shortly before he had fallen asleep and it had been very late. It wasn’t unlikely that she had stayed all night as well.
At first, without a word, Camden simply pushed past Eden. Then he turned back to look at her. “Walk with me. I'm going to the filing room.” He said, motioning her to follow. “Don’t you have a boyfriend or a cat to go home to? You do not have to stay all night because I do.” He sighed and pushed his glasses further up his nose.
Camden shifted the files from one arm to the other, a few pages threatening fall out of the top folders. He could have accessed all of these files from his computer, the company had both paper and digital records but Camden had always preferred to use the paper version. He was handy enough with computers but computer files could be edited. Paper was a bit harder to change.

Eden noticed the door open up and how he barged past her and hearing what he said she followed him to the room, unsure exactly what to say to him now. But hearing everything he said she couldn't help but just concentrate on looking serious, she knew he didn't like her, that was so easy to say. But hearing all that he did about a boyfriend or a dog. And she couldn't help but laugh at that. Leaning against a file cabinet he wasn't using and looked at him. She didn't really know how to take it but reading his body language she knew how far to go.
"I have no one, parents are dead no siblings and no other family. I have no boyfriend and no animals to take care of, you know Camden I think you forget that everyone has a reason for working here. It is clear you don't respect me and you do not like me, but do not judge how and why I do things without even knowing me. This job is everything to some, and just a job for others. For me this isn't just a job, I went to college to be the best in my field.
I knew what taking this position would mean, I am not stupid enough to do a shitty job. I don't ignore the world around me, those I worked with in the lower clearance most of them ignore the world. I am here to do my job, and besides I found one of the many problems for what has been going on with the subjects. If this problem keeps going at the subjects while we stand here and talk about boyfriends and dogs. There brains are getting worse, like it or not Camden we both have to work together."
She was being open with him he judged her much to harshly with what was going on. She saw the pain in him so she knew that something bad had happened to him, which was why she would softly talk around him but enough was enough about everything. Placing her hands on her hips and looking down for a moment, everything in her just was confusing. In a way she liked Camden he wasn't ignorant and did this for his own reasons. Much like hers, her reason was her own as her brown eyes looked up. Unsure what he would say to her if anything at all.

Camden knew, the second that Eden opened her mouth, that he had offended her. Then it seemed that she wouldn’t shut up, she went into the various reasons behind her job and how she didn’t have a boyfriend or a dog. Honestly, she would have lost him about a sentence into her miniature rant if she hadn’t been three feet away from his ear. After she had closed her mouth, Camden adjusted his glasses as he considered in which order he would address her comments and shifted the files to his other arm again.
“Don’t misunderstand my actions Ms. Wolf. I try to remain distant from my co-workers; do not mistake that as disrespect or dislike. I am breaking that distance just by having this chat; do not punish me for it.” Camden started and shook his head. He honestly didn’t know why he tried.
“Also, I was not suggesting that you should not work hard. That would only put more work on me.” He said as he turned a corner down the hall. “I am merely implying that you are young; don’t waste all of your time in this building as I have done.” That would also mean that she would spend less time in his hair. Maybe he would get a few hours of work done in peace.”The world doesn’t end if you relax for a day.”
Granted, most of the time Camden felt that his life would fall apart if he became distracted. For twenty years Abstergo and the Templars have been his world. Then again, at Eden’s age his whole world had been thrown out the window and he never tried to pick up the mess because the biggest pieces had gone missing. While the Animus project needed hard workers such as Eden, she didn’t need to spend all of her time in this building. Also it would keep her out of his way; the last thing Camden wanted to see was this girl surpass him.
Then Camden smirked and a small laughed managed to escape. “And I never said anything about a dog.” He said. “I believe I said ‘a boyfriend or a cat’. Do not put words into my mouth.”
The smile and laugh quickly disappeared back under his iron mask in a flash. “Now, would you mind telling me why you came to my office this morning? We have a busy day ahead of us and I hope you haven’t wasted my time.”

She actually saw a smile and a laugh coming from the man, and she was just frustrated but she never knew what was in his head. But he was so quick with his emotions, perhaps she needed to get out a bit more. Placing the palms of her hands on the corners of the table and looked down. She forgot the reason for a moment what she wanted to speak with him about. But running through the things on her mind she found one that would do and slowly looked up at him. Life was hard as it was, thinking about being with someone wasn't them.
But thinking about how he looked when he slept actually made her smile and slowly stood back up and looked at him nodding slightly and was thinking of everything around her, in the moment everything would be just fine in time. She wondered if the slightest things he found would even make a difference, but she took out a piece of paper from her pocket and opened it and read the contents in it. She was always proud of her own work, and really she had been figuring this out for days without seeing much sun.
"During the night I found a piece of the problem in the formula in what we have been doing, it may not be very much but its a start to finding out the major problem, I have wrapped my brain around all the data finding out this and that. But it seems like the problem is staring us in the face and we have yet to grasp it. Which is enough to really get under my skin, I will figure it out I will keep running the numbers. But how has your work been coming?" She offered a smile.

It took Eden a moment to find her answer and Camden rolled his eyes. With a glance toward his watch, Camden realized that the hands had stopped moving but then again, the battery was bound to stop at some point. There had been very few days in the last twenty years that he had not worn this watch.
At this point, it would probably be cheaper for Camden to go and buy a new watch but he knew that he would be paying the extra money to have a new battery put in. He had no interest in a new watch.
Eden’s voice snapped Camden out of his thoughts. She talked about having found an equation in the programs they were using or something along those lines. He nodded along as she talked; it made little sense to him. He may be head of research but what she babbled on about was something to address with the engineers.
Camden had little control over the inner workings of the Animus; he was focused more on the results that came from the subjects. “Be sure to email all of that to the tech department. It will be much more useful to them than to me.” He suggested.
Then she asked about his work and Camden held the files a little higher in response. “I have been digging through all subject files, as far back as the beginning of the project. I figured that if I found something, anything that could support the advantages, Abstergo would take it. They want to use Bleeding Effect but not until we can prove it had minimal effects.” He switched the files to his left arm again and used his right arm to push into the filing room.
“So far, the only promising case had been Subject 128 but turned out the bastard was hiding his symptoms and proceeded to have a mental breakdown in front of a classroom full of teenagers.” Camden shuddered at the memory of the damage control he had to do after that incident. He had been hopeful that he could make a case with subject 128 but Camden doubted that the Templars wanted their field agents being reduced to violent and incoherent mess in the middle of an important mission.

Eden looked at him and nodded to his suggestion, she was happy for it and sighed softly. Thinking for a moment as she held her chin and really did care what he was saying, thinking for a moment she was surprised someone would want to hide effects. She was surprised someone honestly could, but was going to make double sure she knew what was going on with the subjects. Since she didn't want to lose anyone, looking at her watch she saw what time it was and had plenty of time. But she had a feeling more like that may happen.
"I am surprised someone could hide the effects, I have read the list of horrible side effects and that takes a strong person to do that. I just worry that there will be new complications which is why I am working on the problem, to be honest I haven't been outside the building in five days. And with nothing to come home to I don't mind it. You know I came very close to going in myself to see who my ancestor was, but was afraid of what the out come would happen. Worried if I was stuck with an assassin in my background.
Some people just shouldn't go in it, and should go under for the right reasons. But I guess we will see what happens, but I hope for something good for everyone and for you Camden, you have worked so hard which shows me it is very personal for you. I don't respect very many people and your the only one I respect in this place, you are driven helps keep me driven. But I wont take any more of your time I am sure you have better things to do. But I am always around if you need me."
She didn't want to go exactly but didn't want to upset him or frustrate him so she headed over to the door to leave. Wanting to really talk more with him but again didn't want to frustrate the man, and she could tell she talked away to much so her response was short and sweet.

Camden placed the files down on a table and started to pull open the filing cabinets, storing away the topmost files. He knew that if he left the files sitting out someone else would eventually put them away but he wanted to be certain they went back in the exact spots. Time would be wasted if they were filed incorrectly and Camden would prefer not to waste his time searching for misplaced files. However as Eden proceeded to talk his ear off, he took a pause in with the filing.
“Five days?” Camden asked incredulously as he watched Eden inch toward the door. “Hell even if you don’t have a boyfriend or dog to go home to, I would start to miss my own bed at that point.” He had never spent more than two nights in a row at the office. His chair was not nearly comfortable enough and work only became more of a chore with back pain. “Hopefully you haven’t been awake this entire time. Forty-eight hours awake and you would not need the Bleeding Effect to start hallucinating.”
Eden also talked about her fears about going into the Animus. She was worried about who her ancestors were. Camden had similar worries, not really about his ancestors. He knew that he came from a line of stiff old Templars, they had never been in the middle of the actions. No, Camden had seen enough of the Bleeding Effect to know that he never wanted to be exposed in the first place.
Then she went into this heartfelt speech about how his drive inspired her and how the Animus project was personal to him. Camden wasn’t sure if it was supposed to cheer him up in some way or if Eden was simply expressing some type of platonic crush. Either way, it took Camden by surprise because he had never met such an optimistic Templar.
“It is personal but I believe you wouldn’t be fond of the reasons.” He sighed and twisted the watch around his wrist before unbuckling it. He caught a quick glimpse of the bright red tattoo on his wrist but he quickly shook his sleeve over it. “Trust me; I am the last person in this company that you should look up to.” He slipped his watch into his pants pocket.
